Company landscape
Build the right company landscape for your project.
A useful company map organizes the Chinese market by technology, application, company role, evidence and support fit. That makes it easier to see which candidates deserve a technical conversation, partnership discussion, supplier review or targeted visit.
For an actual project, the useful output is usually a shortlist tied to a specific application: mobile transport, pallet storage, tote picking, autonomous forklifts, sortation, software integration or a wider intralogistics program.
Company categories to map
AMR and AGV companies
Map vehicle hardware, navigation, fleet control, charging, load interfaces and integration ownership.
AS/RS and storage suppliers
Separate storage structures, cranes, shuttles, lifts, conveyors, controls and complete-system responsibility.
Goods-to-person and picking
Review storage, presentation, workstations, robotic picking, order profiles, accuracy and exceptions.
Autonomous forklift companies
Map vehicles and integrators by pallet handling, rack interfaces, navigation, safety and fleet control.
Material-flow and sortation
Include conveyors, transfers, buffers, sorters, controls and line-side material-handling specialists.
Software and technology partners
Research WCS, WES, WMS-related integration, machine vision, fleet platforms and potential OEM or channel partners.
Fields worth capturing for each company
| Field | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Company role | Manufacturer, integrator, software provider, component supplier, distributor, research team or mixed role. | Role determines what the company can own and how it should be compared. |
| Technology category | AMR, AGV, forklift, AS/RS, shuttle, picking, sortation, conveyor, vision or control layer. | Prevents unrelated suppliers from appearing interchangeable. |
| Application focus | Pallet, tote, carton, cold store, manufacturing logistics, e-commerce, retail, 3PL or another stated application. | Application evidence is more useful than generic product language. |
| International support | Documentation, languages, remote support, installation model, spares, certification and destination-country partners where verified. | Export readiness affects the real project path after purchase. |
| Evidence and date | Public source, direct response, demo, reference, visit note, unresolved question and the date checked. | Research remains auditable and does not turn an old claim into a current fact. |
How to qualify a company for your shortlist
- Confirm the company’s legal identity, location and role from reliable public or direct sources.
- Ask which exact products and applications are supported today, not only which categories appear on a website.
- Request evidence relevant to your payload, flow, site environment, software interface and operating pattern.
- Separate a completed reference, a demonstration, a pilot, a partner claim and a product statement.
- Clarify who owns integration, commissioning, software changes, safety validation and after-sales support outside China.
- Use the next outreach or visit to answer the most important open question.
This is the same evidence-led logic used in the detailed AMR / AGV guide, AS/RS guide and factory visit planning.
Build a project-specific company shortlist
Automate China can use this framework for a focused research assignment: define the question, map the relevant categories, identify candidates, contact selected companies, compare responses and arrange meetings or visits where appropriate. This keeps the work useful for an equipment purchase, OEM partnership, distributor search, technology review or executive mission.
Start with the warehouse automation sourcing path for a defined purchase, or with technology scouting when the market question comes first.
