Overview

Factory automation starts with the production bottleneck.

A factory automation project should not start with a robot brand or a machine catalog. It should start with the bottleneck: labor availability, quality variation, throughput, ergonomics, traceability, safety, changeover, or material movement.

China has strong supplier coverage for many of these problems, but the sourcing path changes quickly. A line balancing problem needs different suppliers than an inspection problem. An AGV project needs different evidence than a custom assembly machine.

Factory automation systems commonly sourced in China

When to source a turnkey line versus separate suppliers

A turnkey factory automation supplier can be useful when line balancing, controls, safety, and accountability need one owner. The tradeoff is that you must validate whether the supplier truly controls the full system or is quietly subcontracting key equipment.

Separate suppliers can work when the buyer has strong internal engineering, wants control over key technologies, or already has preferred component standards. In those cases, the integration plan matters as much as the individual machine price.

Factory automation supplier validation checklist

  • Comparable factory automation systems, not just isolated machine demos.
  • Clear mechanical, electrical, controls, safety, and commissioning responsibility.
  • Line simulation or cycle-time proof for the bottleneck operation.
  • Defined PLC, HMI, robot, vision, servo, and safety architecture.
  • Factory acceptance test with samples, runtime, output target, and reject criteria.
  • Documentation, spare parts, training, remote diagnostics, and install support.

Where Automate China fits

We help buyers define the factory automation scope, decide the supplier category, prepare RFQs, compare proposals, validate factories, and structure FAT. If the project is still early, use factory automation consultant China. If supplier search is already active, use automation sourcing agent China.
